Old Fourth Ward
Old Fourth Ward is a historic African American neighborhood located south of midtown and west of Poncey Highland. This area played a significant part in Atlanta’s history, namely as the place where Martin Luther King, Jr. was born, raised and preached. The neighborhood was also the original home of Morris Brown College and Clark College and later Clark Atlanta University. Currently the neighborhood is experiencing an intense period of renaissance and rebirth. Loft and condo development have attracted major retailers to the neighborhood including The Home Depot, Whole Foods and Borders as well as a variety of restaurants along Ponce de Leon Ave. on the northern border of Old Fourth Ward. Historic Sweet Auburn Ave. is located in the southern end of the Ward.
