Grant Park
Grant Park, one of Atlanta’s oldest neighborhoods, was an offering from Colonel L.P. Grant and survived the destruction of the burning of Atlanta during the Civil War. In the 1970s, the neighborhood became a center of revitalization and now hosts seasonal festivals and is home to Zoo Atlanta and the Atlanta Cyclorama and Civil War Museum. The Atlanta Preservation Center’s guided walking tour highlights landmarks such as the Grant Mansion, the Burns Mansion, Grant Park, and Fort Walker. Grant Park’s historic Oakland Cemetery with famous “residents” including Atlanta’s first mayor, Moses Fromwalt, golfer Bobby Jones, and author Margaret Mitchell, also offers unique daytime and twilight tours. Dine at local favorites Agave, Ria’s Bluebird and Six Feet Under.
